boy interrupted part 2 of the review (2008)
there was a lot of strange things about this film that i dont quite understand
1. started taking prozac at 5 years old. that didnt help at all for him. do depression pills really work? i dont think so.
2. the parents told evan about his uncles suicide at 5. great parenting.
3. his mom took pictures of him acting out his hanging. now that was really fucked up. she said she did it because she hated explaining to everyone that his son wanted to kill himself.
4. the parents never stopped him playing that kurt cobain song he wrote. they just recorded it. good move idiots.
5. in the beginning, they kept showing footage of him jumping off random shit. like a diving board. really? thanks for the HINT that he was going to jump out of his window
6. he had a good idea about how he wanted to die. like hanging himself, cutting himself, jumping out of a window or roof. where the fuck did he get these ideas from at such a young age? NOT STATED IN THE FILM
7. parents are still going to a psychiatrist. makes sense because they fucked the kid over.
all i can really say about this film is that im 99 percent sure they made it to make money off of their sons death. honestly, i cant say i felt deeply emotional watching it. the parents have no common sense. drugs dont work. therapy doesnt work. enjoy life. dont kill yourself. theres no point. live forever

today i was bored and decided to watch a documentary on hbo called boy interrupted. its about this kid named evan who killed himself at 15. when you read a description like that you think OK WHY DID HE DO IT? so you want to know why? i dont even know..
the film was made by his parents. they seemed pretty rich. they always showed videos of them on vacation at some island all the time. they lived in new york city. it starts off talking about the kid when he was younger. he would always get his way and his parents never disciplined him. they would just say NO and act like every typical american and put him into time out. so he would just have a fit and trash the room like "keith moon in a hotel room" according to his father.
around 5 years old, he started talking about death and wanting to kill himself. he told his teacher at school about his uncles suicide and the teacher told the parents then he was put on prozac.
at one point i think around 7 years old he was playing guitar. he was singing "somebody please kill me pretty pretty please i want to die" etc etc. when i was 7, i was singing will smith songs. in kindergarten he wrote a play about someone dying. and he liked the idea about funerals that when you die everyone gathers and praises you.
later, he was kicked out of school because he went on the roof and tried to jump off. they took him to some depression school and put him on lithium. he was getting better around this time and was always happy.
as the older he got, he seemed pretty average. at times he would get his depressed mood swings but he would feel better eventually. he started bonding with friends at this prep school during 8th grade. the friends said that he always seemed like a nice kid and at times he would get moody but didnt think anything of it.
at 15 he started hating his homework (typical kid right?) and bitched about it. one night, he had a fight with his mom. he went to his room and his dad walked in and asked if everything was alright and he was on his laptop typing. his dad leaves the room and comes back 10 min later noticing hes gone. he realizes that he jumped out of the window into some shaft. so yes thats when he dies and they read his suicide note. it was typed on the laptop. it was pretty much the most typical thing a 15 year old would say about themselves. all i can say is that he acted like he was the only kid in the world who felt like no one liked him, he didnt have trustworthy friends, his parents didnt love him enough, felt ugly, felt stupid, felt unworthy.

i spent like an hour registering for this bullshit test. they ask you like 72 questions about what would you like to do. a lot of them are like
would you want to study a map?
would you watch a forest fire? (WHAT THE FUCK)
would you want to play in a band? (UM YES)
i also had to answer what i want as my major and what career i want. seriously, im 17 years old. no offense to anyone who knows what they want to do for the rest of their life but goddamn i dont have a clue. i dont even know what im going to eat for dinner tonight.
ill probably end up being that kid who switches their major about 5 times then graduates and still doesnt know what to do. then i realize i just wasted my money (JUST KIDDING ITS MY PARENTS MONEY AHAHHAHAHA) the thing is kids, universities dont give a fuck about you. they just want MONEY. and to look cooler theyll REJECT YOU. its a sad life.
ive also came with the conclusion is that most teachers i see who brag about they went to some fancy college HATE themselves. one of my teachers (he who shall not be named) told my class that we should all go to college to make money and be happy and shit. but he is like, the biggest dick in the world. he never seems satisfied with anything and he always seems unsure about himself. as if he doesnt know what hes doing with his life. so he FAILS.
question: should i go to college like this guy and hate myself?
or this guy who enjoys life and has never touched a paintbrush
