fucked up film: capturing the friedmans (2003)

man this family is fucking weird. i don't wanna get too into the story but to make it real short it's about a dad and a son being investigated for child molestation. it's one of those films that is supposed to shock you because they look like a typical family you'd see in a quiet suburb. we should all know by now that people do weird shit in the suburbs. you don't need to be a rocket science to figure out that even one of your neighbors right now could be running a meth lab in their basement or even holding a secret cult meeting in their living room. everyone has a secret. some secrets can be harmless to others or downright hurtful. this was the latter.

fucked up film: l.i.e. (2001)

l.i.e. is about a kid named howie played by paul dano who hangs around with kids that break into houses and steal stuff. howie's best friend is a boy named gary. howie is a bit sexually confused and he develops a crush on gary. one night, gary and howie break into the house of big john during his birthday party and steal his prized hand guns. john attacks howie and tears off a piece of howie's jeans. howie later discovers that gary is a hustler and he is one of john's clients. plus john is a huge pedophile. like REALLY huge. throughout the film, howie begins a nonsexual relationship with john and becomes a fatherly figure for howie. the whole film is pretty fucking sad and you feel really bad for howie and john. especially john, for me at least. i think we tend to label pedophiles as some sort of monsters as if that's politically correct. they're human beings. not that i'm saying it's ok to do that shit. anyway i really liked this. the story line fell a little flat in the end but the characters felt so real. another great movie that deals with this subject is the woodsman which is like the most honest and heart breaking movie i've seen in ages.

fucked up film: requiem for a dream (2000)

i feel like i've been missing out on this movie for a long time so i decided to check it out last night. i've only seen one darren aronofsky film and that was black swan. i kinda knew what to expect from hearing about the ass to ass scene and that fucking song you hear in every cliche dramatic youtube video.

anyway its about four people with addictions which is mostly heroin and then you got an old lady who is into diet pills. most of these characters annoyed the fuck out of me so i honestly didn't feel SHOCKED by their actions. for example, jared leto's character was constantly injecting heroin into the same place in his arm. if you keep doing that, it's going to get infected.

you had it coming dickhead

the only thing that kinda shocked me was the girl who has sex with her therapist to get money from him. then she meets up with a pimp and does a sex show with another girl. that was interesting..

i can't see myself watching this ever again. it makes a good psa for teenagers to not do drugs but its so over dramatic. check out the basketball diaries instead or even better, TRAINSPOTTING.

caché (2005)

cache is about a married couple who get surveillance video tapes and the whole movie they're trying to figure out whose doing it. most of the tapes show their house, the husband's childhood home, and other places. you never find out who is exactly making these tapes but you suspect a bunch of people like their friends, the husband's old "friend", the old "friend"'s son, and even their own son. people say you gotta watch it like a bunch of times to get it but i find that kind of dumb. i don't mind some endings that make you guess what will happen next but that concept seems a little pointless for this movie.

i didn't find myself getting to into it. the characters were a little annoying and it kinda made me want to fall asleep but that's because it was like 4am when i finished watching it. but overall it was a decent film. it's definitely not my favorite michael haneke film but it's still a good watch. if you're not into films that make you guess a lot then this is not for you.

fucked up film: dogtooth (2009)

dogtooth is about a husband and wife who keep their kids imprisoned in their house. they don't know anything about the outside world. the only way they can leave is if they lose a dogtooth. the ending leaves you thinking "really? thats's it?". its kind of depressing really. there's a couple of sex scene w/ incest involved. according to imdb, this movie is a black comedy but i didn't find myself laughing when the younger sister was going down on the older sister.

also the boy in the film looks like sonic boom. so in the first scene, i felt like i was watching sonic boom having sex. :/

fucked up film: enter the void (2009)

enter the void is the third film by the fucked up director gaspar noe. i don't mean that in a bad way. he's amazing. the last movie he made was irreversible which is by far one of the most fucked up films i've ever seen and again i don't mean that in a bad way. it's one of those movies you need to see once and that's it. enter the void on the other hand, you could watch this over and over if you wanted to.

i don't feel like explaining what the movie was about but it deals with drugs and the afterlife. the film is mostly shot in first person so you feel like you're experiencing what the main character is going through. the reason why i labeled this as fucked up is because there's a lot of sex scenes, crazy drug hallucinations, and a dead fetus.

enron: the smartest guys in the room (2005)

we've heard it all before. big company from houston gets busted for accounting fraud. ruins the lives of 29,000 employees. if you ever find yourself browsing on the wikipedia article of the enron scandal, watch this documentary instead. its kinda long like almost 2 hours long but its worth watching. it's like a horror film really. i watched it on a stormy night and it kinda freaked me out. maybe i'll get nightmares of enron ceos and traders. also, i was almost going to label this a fucked up film but i don't think it lives up to the fucked up film standards (i.e. sex and violence).

fucked up fillm: secretary (2002)

secretary is about a girl named lee (played by maggie gyllenhaal) who is released from a mental hospital. she cuts herself and she has a drunk dad and a overprotective mom. one day lee decides "hey, what the hell? im gonna go get a job!" she gets a job as a (HINT: MOVIE TITLE) for a demanding lawyer named mr. gray (played by james spader). for her job, she does all these lame ass tasks like typing up letters for so and so, setting up mouse traps, jumping in garbage bins, and other dumb shit. the only problem is that lee is shit at her job. mr. gray gets upset whenever he finds typos in her work. he gets so upset that one day, he tells lee to bend over on his desk and he punishes her by slapping her ass a bunch of times. she becomes sexually obsessed with mr. gray and their s&m relationship goes out of control. i loved the hell out of this film. great acting and storyline. i don't think my health teacher would approve of this.

fucked up film: dead man's shoes (2004)

dead man's shoes is a film about a guy who returns to his hometown with his mentally challenged brother, anthony. in the past, anthony was brutalized by a bunch of twats so richard is out to seek revenge on them. he starts off doing stupid pranks on them like spray painting their hair. throughout the film, they show flashbacks of what the guys did to anthony. it's kinda depressing. i thought the movie was going to be more violent but there are some messed up shit that happens. overall, it was an ok movie. nothing to jizz over.

afterschool (2008)

afterschool reminds a lot like elephant. the gus van sant film thats kinda boring at some parts but still interesting as fuck. the story is about a kid named robert who goes to a prep school. he's surrounded by a bunch of douchebags and his roommate is a drug dealer. robert spends majority of his time on his computer watching generic youtube videos and masturbating to porn. he takes up the offer on joining the after school video club. one day, robert is filming some b-roll in the hallways and two girls just stumble in out of nowhere bleeding profusely. one girl drops dead and the other one is struggling to stay alive. i feel like i'm explaining the entire scene so i don't want to spoil what happens next. the way this movie is filmed is fucking unbelievable. the acting is pretty solid too. please check it out though. not for the faint of heart.

pirate radio is a movie about a bunch of british people and phillip seymour hoffman running a radio station on a boat. nothing very special about it. the british government try to take down the station then the boat sinks but it's ok no one dies at the end.

bowling for columbine (2002)

i had to watch this movie for my sociology class and i have to say it was pretty damn good. the fat ass does a great job explaining how gun control in the us is pretty fucking awful. america is a scary place i guess. i think michael moore tried a little hard to prove his point by getting weird hicks to talk about their love for guns. i really hated how he attacks some people like the scene where he goes to the kmart headquarters to talk about bullets. he was being such a dick about it. anyway this was a good documentary. oscar worthy? i guess. i'm gonna move to canada now.

rip!: a remix manifesto is a documentary about the changing concept of copyright. we all know everyone downloads shit illegally. it's not that big of a deal anymore. i haven't heard of anyone recently getting in trouble for downloading some song off a blog or something. the movie did a good job proving that the system is fucked up. the system that is copyright corporations such as RIAA and the movie one whatever it's called. i LOVED when they showed footage of lars ulrich talking about napster. he was such a little bitch about it.

ghost world (2001)

ghost world is based off a comic book by daniel crownes. the story is about two outsider girls, enid and rebecca, who just graduated from high school. one day, they find a personal ad from a guy named seymour, who is trying to find a woman he met recently. pretending to be the woman he met, enid calls up his number and has the idea to meet up with him. she finds out that he's incredibly lonely and a bit of a dork. the rest of the film shows enid developing a friendship with seymour. overall it was a great movie. the characters are easy to fall in love with. it reminded me of american beauty.

fucked up film: trash humpers (2009)

harmony korine is one of my all time favorite directors but this movie was trash. it was a lot of humping of inanimate objects objects and weird moaning. i mean i guess it's a great film to watch if i was stoned but at the moment i'm completely sober and i felt like i just lost 78 minutes out of my life. there were some parts that were very entertaining and funny but most of the time it was very repetitive and exhausting. i'm not a huge fan of films that try to be artistic and shit but this was too much for me. i'd rather watch gummo or julien donkey-boy.

when i first heard about this movie i had no intention of ever seeing it. i thought it was going to be another garden state hipster film yknowwhatimean. i ended up watching it yesterday on hbo and i thought it was a well written, down to earth film. it's not an ordinary romantic comedy movie. the plot is basically summed in the title. the thing i like about it is how it tells a story of a failed relationship. i really don't want to say what happens in the film but if you really want to know what happens SPOILER ALERT summer is a cunt.

choke is a movie that tells you its ok to be a sex addict when in reality, you need to get some help. don't even try to give in this film because it based off a book by the guy who did fight club. bland storyline, mediocre acting, and a pretentious soundtrack. that is everything i do not like in a flim.

once is a great while, there is a decent horror film that comes out. i'm sick of these remakes and annoying series that never seem to end (ex. SAW). drag me to hell is a good original horror film with a simple plot. christine is a loan officer with a cool boyfriend named clay. life is going pretty chill when an old lady comes in asking about an extension on her home loan. she could either give the old lady a break or impress her boss and kick her out. she ends up telling her she cannot help her out. christine is thinking oh yea im hot shit no one can touch me when suddenly the old lady comes out of nowhere and places a curse on christine. she had it coming. the rest of the movie deals with her life turning into a living nightmare. its a very interesting movie but i think sam riami could have done better. oh well.

this is england (2006)

this is england is a film about a 12 year old named shaun, who has a hard time fitting in at school and is always picked on. he meets a group of non-racist skinheads who let him hang out and join the group. they shave his head and give him some cool clothes to wear. things being to change when combo, a racist skinhead, joins the group again after being let out from prison. combo has ideas to change the group to be racist and shit and most of the guys are not diggin it. shaun likes his ideas so he joins him and they go to a white nationalist meeting. the rest of the film shows shaun's life with combo and the consequences that comes with it. i thought this film was brilliant. the storyline and the acting is very realistic.
